Man Shot, Seriously Wounded By Tagger He Confronts

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― A business owner was shot and seriously wounded Wednesday afternoon in Hollywood after he confronted a tagger who was defacing his property, according to police.

Police say the 51-year-old business owner and his brother confronted two suspects they reportedly just witnessed spray painting the walls of their property in the 5000 block of Hollywood Blvd.

A verbal confrontation began between the two sets of men. Police say one of the taggers whipped out a gun and shot the businessman once in the chest.

The incident occured about 1 p.m., said police.

The victim's brother said the two suspects -- described as white and between 16-20 years old -- jumped into a tan 1999 Camry and fled.

Detectives say they are pursuing several leads. The suspects are still at large.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he is listed in critical, but stable, condition.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Robbery Homicide Division and speak to detectives Michael Oppelt or Ismael Aldaz at (213) 485-2531. On weekends and on off hours, you are asked to call the 24-hour toll free hotline 1-877-LAWFULL (529-3855).
