Van Found, Sword Slaying Suspect Still At Large

LOS ANGELES Sheriff's officials say the van used by the man suspected of stabbing his girlfriend to death with a sword in front of her four children was found Tuesday.

Jesus Humberto Canales is wanted in the death of Lucy Preciado, who was murdered in front of her four young children in the 4100 block of West Avenue L in Lancaster at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

The vehicle, a 2002 bronze GMC Safari van with California license plate 6CBY663, was found in Pomona by local law enforcement. The van was empty.

Preciado's 9-year-old daughter called 911 and that tape was released Monday. Sheriff Lee Baca's spokesman, Steve Whitmore, described the tape as "so horrendous it made a couple of the homicide detectives cry."

"Help, my dad just stabbed my mom ... with a sword. He's leaving right now. Please hurry. I don't want my mommy to die," the girl was heard saying on the tape.

Canales may have a pistol and should be considered armed and dangerous, deputies said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500.
