Bomb Squad Called To Synagogue For Strange Device
LONG BEACH, Calif. (CBS) ―
A sheriff's bomb squad was called Wednesday to a Long Beach synagogue, where a briefcase with a possible "suspicious" device was found, but no explosives were found, authorities said.
The device was found in front of Temple Israel at 3538 E. Third St. about 3:30 p.m. between the synagogue and an apartment building, said Officer Nancy Pratt of the Long Beach Police Department.
As a precaution, a sheriff's bomb squad was called in an an area about the size of a city block was evacuated. At 6 p.m., it was determined the briefcase did not contain anything explosive.
It was not immediately clear what was actually in the briefcase.
