2 Women Charged With Torturing 5-Year-Old Boy

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Prosecutors have filed charges against a Los Angeles woman and her friend who are accused of starving and beating a 5-year-old boy.
 
Authorities say the child's mother, Starkeisha Brown, and girlfriend Krystal Matthews are charged with one count each of torture, child abuse, corporal injury to a child, dissuading a witness, and two counts each of conspiracy. They were scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
 
Police say the women tortured the boy for about two years before child welfare officials received an anonymous tip.

Authorities say the child was hospitalized and is showing signs of improvement.
