Police are looking for suspects in the fatal shooting of an 8-year-old girl in South Los Angeles, the unintended target of a gang-related shooting.
The girl was shot near East 76th and South San Pedro streets at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Los Angeles police Capt. Dennis Cato said a group of children were playing in the courtyard of their apartment building when two males opened fire. Cato says the girl was hit in the chest.
Officer Jason Lee says the girl was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Cato says officers are searching for the two gunmen, who fled on foot.
