1 Killed, 2 Injured In Sherman Oaks Apartment Fire

SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. (CBS) ― One person was killed and two others were injured in a Sherman Oaks apartment building fire, authorities said.

The fire was reported about 2 a.m. Sunday at a three-story building in the 15200 block of Dickens Street and knocked down 30 minutes later, according to Diana Igawa of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A 70-year-old man died, after he was found unconscious and in full cardiac arrest with second and third-degree burns to his body, the fire department's Cecil Manresa said. His name was not immediately released.

A 40-year-old woman was hospitalized with smoke inhalation and a child was treated at the scene for a possibly asthma-related injury, Igawa said.

Residents were allowed to return to their first and second floor units after 90 minutes. Police and firefighters blocked access to the third floor. The cause of the fire was under investigation, according to officials.
