Paris Hilton was exultant upon leaving jail early Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Lee Baca angrily defended his original release of hotel heiress Paris Hilton from jail in an appearance before the LA County Board of Supervisors.
He said Hilton had developed a psychological condition that could be life-threatening and that her mental state was "decompensating," or deteriorating. Exacerbating her condition, he said, was the fact she couldn't tell jailers exactly what medications she had been prescribed and a disagreement between her own physicians on how she should be treated.
Baca released Hilton to home detention three days after she began serving a 45-day sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
Her sentencing judge ordered her back to jail the next day.
