Wanted: Man Who Tried To Sexually Assault Girl, 15

COSTA MESA Police in Costa Mesa are looking for a man they say tried to sexually assault a 15-year-old girl Thursday evening.

The man who approached the 15-year-old girl as she was walking home, then steered her off the sidewalk and tried to sexually assault her, according to police.

The girl, whose name was not released, was walking home just before 10 p.m. near Rea School at 661 Hamilton St. when the man came up and put his arm around her, said Costa Mesa police Sgt. Bryan Glass.

The suspect -- who was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with a white logo on the back, walked the girl off the sidewalk and attempted to sexually assault her.

She screamed and he ran off. The man, who appeared to be in his early 20s, was last seen eastbound on Hamilton Street from Meyer Place, Glass said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Detective Dana Potts, (714)754-5363.
