Los Angeles police hope that a composite sketch and video footage made public today will help them track down a man who tried to kidnap a 4-year-old girl and who fondled a 17-year-old girl in North Hills.
The teen was walking to a store near Rayen Street and Langdon Avenue
about 7:45 p.m. Friday when a man approached her and rubbed her thigh, police said.
The man smiled at her before walking away.
An hour later, the same man walked into the courtyard of an apartment
complex in the 15500 block of Rayen Street where a group of children were playing, police said.
When a security guard was out of sight, the man grabbed a 4-year-old
girl who had been sitting on the ground playing, police said.
A young boy, who saw the girl being taken away, ran after the suspect,
and the man put the child down and walked away, police said.
The suspect was described as a Latino in his early 30s, 5 feet 7 inches
tall and weighing between 140 and 180 pounds. He had a faded scar on his left cheek and wore a black knit cap with an Oakland Raiders logo on the front, a long sleeve thermal shirt, dark pants and white shoes.
Detectives believe the suspect was involved in two prior sexual assaults
in the area, and police were urging women not to walk alone in that area.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect was asked to contact
police Detective Manuel Armijo at (818) 838-9810 or 1-877-LAWFULL.
