Guard Drives Truck Into Silver Lake Reservoir
SILVER LAKE, Calif. (CBS) ―
A security guard patrolling a Silver Lake neighborhood accidentally drove a company pickup into a reservoir Monday, but was able to swim back to shore uninjured, police said.
The accident took place near the 2700 block of Tesla Avenue at 1 a.m., Los Angeles police Sgt. Steve Cunningham of the Northeast Station said.
The security guard, a man in his late 20s, said he veered off the road and lost control of the pickup, which went about 100 feet into the reservoir and sunk, Cunningham said.
The guard was tested for drugs and alcohol, which did not appear to be factors.
A tow truck with a long cable was brought in, and divers secured the cable to the pickup, enabling it to be hauled out, according to Cunningham.
