3 Shot At Granada Hills Church Festival

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Los Angeles police say a child custody dispute was behind Saturday's shooting that left three people wounded, one of them critically, at a fundraising festival outside a San Fernando Valley church.

Police say 33-year-old Fernando Diaz Jr. -- whose son attends the church school -- opened fire on his ex-wife with a .22-caliber semiautomatic rifle as the festival was about to open.

Dozens of adults and children were on the field as the shots rang out.

Police say the Diaz's ex-wife was hit in the arm and was hospitalized in stable condition. A 45-year-old man was shot in the chest and critically wounded. Another man was hit in the leg and was listed as stable.

Authorities say several bystanders, including an off-duty Burbank police officer, grabbed the suspected attacker and held him down until Los Angeles police arrived.

Diaz is now in custody.
