Mobile Home Park Devastated In Fast-Moving Fire

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Fire officials said a mobile home park sustained major damage in a fast-moving wildfire in Sylmar that Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said has destroyed dozens of structures throughout the area.

The park is the site of 600 spaces for homes but no further details were immediately available on the fire damage.

City fire Capt. Steve Ruda said Oakridge Mobile Home Park sustained "almost total devastation." He said street signs in the park had been melted by flames when 70 mph blew through the area earlier.

The mayor said a specific count was not available on the total number of structures lost in the 2,600-acre fire that began late Friday.
