Santa Monica police Wednesday asked for the public's help in finding a 19-year-old woman from England who vanished 12 days ago while vacationing in the Southland.
Leona Dawn Perryman arrived in the United States on Oct. 13th with a male travel companion, and is known to have visited West Hollywood, Venice and Santa Monica, Santa Monica police Sgt. Jay Trisler said.
Perryman was last seen just before midnight Dec. 18, in Santa Monica, Trisler said.
She is described as white with blonde hair and blue eyes. She is about 5'7 and weighs 130 pounds.
Police initially interviewed the woman's traveling companion and boyfriend, Paul Atkinson, 45.
KCAL 9 reported he was the person who called in the missing persons report. Police then said he turned off his cell phone and they were unable to reach him.
Wednesday evening, Santa Monica police reported they located Atkinson in the area of Pacific and Windward in Venice. They took him into custody and arrested him on a charge unrelated to his girlfriend's disappearance.
He was taken into custody without incident, according to officials.
Police asked anyone with information about Perryman's whereabouts to call SMPD Detective Larry Nicols at (310) 458-8939; Detective Maury Sumlin at (310) 458-8437; or the department's 24-hour anonymous tip line at (310) 458-8449.
