A man was critically injured Friday when he was hit by a car while crossing a street in Santa Ana.
A 57-year-old Santa Ana man was critically injured Friday when he was hit by a car while crossing a street mid-block, police said.
Officers were called at 6:03 a.m. to the 1200 block of East 17th Street,
said Santa Ana police Cmdr. Steve Colon.
The man, who crossed from the north to the south, had reached the grassy median, but he was hit while trying to get to the other side, Colon said.
A truck approaching in the first lane stopped, but a car in the next lane over continued and struck the man, Colon said.
The man suffered life-threatening injuries, Colon said, and was taken to
a local hospital.
Everyone stayed at the scene, and "there were no signs of drinking," Colon said.
"The pedestrian stepped out unexpectedly," he said.
The accident occurred between Lincoln and Grand avenues, Colon said.
