San Bernardino Jails Distribute Cold Case Cards

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) ― Cold case playing cards distributed at San Bernardino County jails give inmates a handful of killers.

The card decks also feature faces of the dead.

The sheriff's Cold Case Team is hoping information on the 5,000 decks of cards will lead inmates to come forward and help solve lingering cases.

Sgt. Frank Montanez says inmates play cards all the time and they generally know things about crimes. It's hoped they will telephone the WeTip anonymous crime hot line number printed on the cards.

The decks are available to nearly 6,000 inmates in county jails in Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino, Devore and Adelanto.

The idea for cold case cards was taken from the military's "Iraq's Most Wanted" card decks given U.S. troops in 2003.
