Man Found Guilty In Samurai Sword Killing

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) ― A jury has found a man, 30, guilty of manslaughter in the killing of his housemate, whom he slashed and stabbed 24 times in the torso with a samurai sword.

Gary Dale Myers Jr. got into a fight with Marco Gutierrez involving a tire iron and Myers' collection of samurai swords on March 8, 2005.

The only witness to the fight was Gutierrez's girlfriend, Melissa Splain, who hanged herself seven months later.

Myers, whom the jury found not guilty of first- and second-degree murder, is scheduled be sentenced April 8.
