Police are looking for the driver of a sport utility vehicle that plowed into a South Los Angeles church on Thursday night.
The accident took place on the corner of West 80th Street and South Western Avenue before midnight, Sgt. Clarence Perkins of the Los Angeles Police Department's South Traffic Division said.
A woman in a Buick Century was driving northbound on Western Avenue and, while making a left turn, struck a Cadillac Escalade headed south on Western Avenue, Perkins said.
After the accident, the Escalade's driver continued in a southwesterly direction, veered off the roadway and crashed through the front of St. John's Deliverance Church of God and Christ at 8001 South Western Ave., he said. The Escalade's driver then fled the vehicle and left the scene.
The woman driving the Buick was taken to a hospital complaining of pain, he said, adding that her condition is not known.
The church was boarded up after the Escalade was towed from the crash site, Perkins said.
