1 Dead, 2 Injured In Hit, Run Accident In L.A.
LOS ANGELES
A man in a wheelchair was killed Friday after he was struck by a blue Chevy Tahoe, authorities said.
Two other pedestrians were also injured in the hit-and-run crash that happened in the unincorporated Athens Village area.
The California Highway Patrol said the driver of the SUV was traveling eastbound on El Segundo Boulevard just before 2 p.m. when he ran a red light and struck three people as they traveled northbound in the crosswalk along Alavon Boulevard.
The man in the wheelchair was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims are expected to be ok.
The suspect, who was seen making erratic lane changes while approaching the intersection, was driving at a high-rate of speed.
Officials said he was traveling northbound on Avalon Boulevard when he made a sharp U-turn near 127th street. The sport utility vehicle was last seen heading southbound on Avalon Boulevard.
A witness gave CHP officers the vehicle's California license plate number 5GIY964 and further investigation is underway.
