Burglars Break In While Ex-Rose Queen Is At Home

PASADENA, Calif. A former Rose Queen found herself in a thorny situation – calling police from a closet in her home as four suspect tried to burglarize her family's Pasadena home.

Police dispatchers got a call at 10:17 a.m. Wednesday from the woman, who turned out to be 2006 Rose Queen Camille Clark, as she hid in a closet in her home in the 1300 block of Wierfield Road after hearing intruders, Pasadena police spokeswoman Janet Pope Givens said.

"She could hear them moving around, and she could hear one of them say to the other ...'We have to go. The police are here. That's the police helicopter,'" Lt. Tom Pederson said.

The crew of the police chopper overhead saw two suspects fleeing on foot and two in a car.

One of the suspects got out of the car and tried to flee on foot. Police in the helicopter directed officers to the location and responding patrol units were able to immediately find and apprehend all three suspects.

The fourth suspect in the car tried to run down an officer.

"The officer fired several shots at the vehicle as it drove near him, jumped out of the way and the vehicle still continued," Pederson said.

The suspect was finally stopped by another officer who had blocked the road with a police car, and was booked on suspicion of attempted homicide.

Three of the suspects are from Pasadena and one is from Victorville, according to police, who say one is underage.

The suspects' names are being withheld as police investigate the possibility of solving multiple burglaries at once.
