Beijing Olympics To Represent In Rose Parade
LOS ANGELES (AP) ―
In a historic prelude to the Beijing Olympics, China will be represented in its first Rose Parade float on New Year's Day.
A formal announcement regarding the float is scheduled for Monday at tournament headquarters in Pasadena, whose sister city is the Xicheng district of Beijing. A delegation of the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee is expected to attend.
Pasadena-based Avery Dennison is co-sponsoring the Olympic-themed float, along with the Roundtable of Southern California Chinese-American Organizations.
The theme of the 2008 Rose Parade is fitting, "Passport to the World's Celebrations," and tournament officials had hoped for China to be represented.
The China float will be designed by Festival Artists Worldwide.
