Pollstar Names Biggest Concert Tours Of 2006

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Concert tours by the Rolling Stones, Barbra Streisand and country duo Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were among the top-grossing tours in North American in 2006, helping drive ticket revenue to a record $3.6 billion.

That's according to figures released Thursday by the industry trade magazine Pollstar.

Pollstar's editor-in-chief Gary Bongiovanni says the figures represent a 16 percent increase over 2005, when North American concert ticket sales totaled $3.1 billion.

Concert receipts for the top 100 tours of the year totaled $2.3 billion, up more than 12 percent from last year.

Pollstar says the Rolling Stones' "A Bigger Bang" tour led all other concert tours this year with $138.5 million in gross receipts.
