Two robbers Friday targeted a Rite Aid drug store in the Country Club Park area of Los Angeles.
The assailants tied up five employees and threw them into a shed at the back of the store while they took $4,000 in cash, authorities said.
The robbery at 969 Crenshaw Blvd. occurred around 12:20 a.m., according to Lt. David Evans of the Los Angeles Police Department's Wilshire Station.
A sixth employee, who had not been seen by the men, managed to sneak out of the store and call for help, he said.
Officers arrived after the robbers left the scene and found the employees, who were not injured, in the shed.
The store was closed for restocking when the robbery occurred, Evans said. It was not immediately clear how the men gained access to the store.
Neither man was wearing a mask, he said, but one of them was carrying a gun.
"It's considering kidnapping during a robbery if the victims are moved," Evans said. "And since they (the employees) were moved from the interior of the building to a shed in the rear outside of the location, it's considered kidnapping."
Anyone with information about the crime was asked to call the LAPD's Wilshire Station at (213) 473-0476.
