Riverside Man Could Face Animal Cruelty Charges

Horses, Pigs, Parrot, Goat Taken From Home

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) ― Animal control officers took custody of two dozen animals including four emaciated horses and found three pigs they believe starved to death at a home in Riverside County.

Animal Services Department spokesman John Welsh says officers responded to complaints at the Woodcrest area home of Wilson Rojas and found eight horses, 10 live and three dead pigs, three dogs, a goat, a chicken and a red-beaked parrot.

The officers intended to seize the 24 live animals but Rojas willingly signed over ownership.

Welsh says his department is asking the district attorney to prosecute Rojas for animal cruelty but he was not arrested.

A phone listing for Rojas could not be found and messages left after business hours with the District Attorney's Office were not immediately returned.
