UC Riverside Professor's Body Found In His Home

LONG BEACH A man who was found slain in his Long Beach home this weekend has been identified as an English professor at the University of California Riverside.

Police said Tuesday they have arrested a 20-year-old on suspicion of killing Lindon Barrett, who specialized in African-American studies.

Officer Jackie Bezart says police found Barrett on Sunday when they responded to neighbors' reports of a bad smell coming from his apartment. His body appeared to have been dead for several days and his car was missing.

Police arrested Marlon Martinez of Long Beach after finding him outside Barrett's car several miles from the apartment.

Detectives say Barrett and Martinez were acquaintances but would not give further detail.
