Riverside Cops Find Pipe Bomb During Traffic Stop
RIVERSIDE
A pipe bomb hidden in a sport utility vehicle tailpipe was discovered during a routine traffic stop in Riverside, a California Highway Patrol officer said today.
A CHP officer pulled over the 2001 Toyota Sequoia for non-working taillights about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday on Center Street, west of Iowa Avenue, said CHP Officer Sylvia Mosley.
The device was discovered during a search of the vehicle.
Daniel Juan Martinez, 24, of Colton, was taken into custody and the county sheriff's bomb squad disposed of the bomb, Mosley said.
Martinez was booked into the county jail on suspicion of possession of explosives in public and was being held on no bail pending Monday's arraignment at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
