Convicted Rapist Worked At L.A. Hospitals
LOS ANGELES (AP) ―
A convicted rapist has been allowed to work with female patients unsupervised at Los Angeles County hospitals for 10 years, even though managers knew about his criminal record.
The Los Angeles Times, citing records and interviews, reported Friday that Gariner Beasley raped a woman in 1991 while on duty as a Los Angeles police officer, but he was still hired at County-USC Medical Center as an X-ray technician after he got out of prison.
Beasley was fired last August after the county hospitals' hiring of people with serious criminal histories came under scrutiny. The hospitals said managers erred in allowing him to be hired and stay on the job.
According to documents, Beasley disclosed his criminal record on his job application and the information was reviewed each time he was promoted and transferred.
