Rapist Fired From L.A. Health Facility -- Again

Officials say a convicted rapist who was fired from his job as a medical technician was then rehired to do the same work at a Los Angeles health clinic.

Now 48-year-old Gariner Beasley has been fired from that job, too.

The Los Angeles Times says Beasley raped a woman in 1991 while on duty as a Los Angeles police officer, but he was still hired at County-USC Medical Center as an X-ray technician after he got out of prison.

He was fired from that job last August, with managers saying they erred.

But after he was fired from that job, county managers rehired him through a contractor to do the same work at an East Los Angeles health clinic.

County officials struggled Wednesday to explain how they had rehired Beasley.
