Ex-Rams Kicker Charged With Drugging, Raping Woman
LOS ANGELES (AP) ―
Los Angeles County prosecutors have charged former Los Angeles Rams kicking star Tony Zendejas with drugging and raping a female customer of his Pomona sports bar in January.
The district attorney's office says the 48-year-old Zendejas was arrested on felony warrants early Thursday at his Yorba Linda home.
He is charged with one count each of rape by use of drugs, rape of an unconscious person, sodomy by anesthesia or controlled substance and sodomy of an unconscious victim.
Zendejas, who set a field goal mark of 17-for-17 with the Los Angeles Rams in 1991, retired in 1995 after being released by the San Francisco 49ers. He also played for the Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons.
He was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail, but he posted bail late Thursday afternoon and was released. He is tentatively scheduled to be arraigned in Pomona Superior Court on Sept. 11.
If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
