Snow, Hail, Tornadoes Hit Southern California

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) ― Southern California residents Friday were cleaning up after a day of wild weather that brought fierce thunderstorms, at least two tornadoes, hail and even snow in low-lying communities.

And forecasters say it's not over yet, with more unstable weather forecast through the holiday weekend.

Light rain was still falling across the Southland Friday morning, with more thunderstorms and showers expected for the afternoon.

A funnel cloud toppled a tractor-trailer Thursday on a highway in Riverside County and blew over freight cars on nearby railroad tracks. One person was rescued from the wrecked truck.

Evacuation orders were issued to about 1,500 people in Williams, Modjeska and Trabuco canyons in Orange County, areas devastated by a 28,000-acre wildfire last fall. They were lifted by late afternoon.

A layer of hail coated parts of the Los Angeles suburb of Baldwin Park.
The area of the mudslides was charred last fall by a wildfire that burned 15 homes and 28,000 acres.

The downpours are part a wild weather system that dusted Southern California with a rare late spring snowfall.
