It's Prom Night For Senior Citizens In Murrieta

MURRIETA, Calif. Tonight is prom night for seniors -- senior citizens, that is.

Vista Murrieta High School will hold its 10th Senior Citizen Prom on Friday night. According to Karen Parris of the Murrieta Valley Unified School District, the dances have been a hit with both teens and senior citizens.

Students dance with the seniors and the seniors dance with each other, she said.

The dance is free to senior citizens and held in the multi-purpose room, which the students have decorated for the event. The Milt Rasmussen Orchestra will supply the music and refreshments will be served.

"It's a great opportunity for the generations to interact," said Parris.

Beyond the yearly prom, the district also takes senior citizens to athletic events.

"They are among our students' biggest fans," Parris said. "It's really a win-win."
