Two days after delivering his final State of the Union address, President Bush will visit a Torrance helicopter company Wednesday to discuss the U.S. economy and then take part in a Republican National Committee fundraiser.
The president's visit comes on the same day that Southern California will host a debate of the Republican candidates hoping to replace him in the White House. The Republican presidential debate will be held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.
The Democratic candidates will debate Thursday in Hollywood.
Upon his arrival at Los Angeles International Airport, Bush will present Volunteer Service Awards to Marni and Berni Barta. The sisters, who are students at Harvard-Westlake School, founded Kid Flicks, a program that collects new and used DVDs that are donated to children's hospitals and pediatric treatment centers across the country.
The program has donated more than 28,000 DVDs to 286 hospitals in the United States, and five hospitals in South Africa.
After greeting the students at the airport, Bush will travel to Robinson Helicopter Co. in Torrance. He is expected to tour the facility, and then make remarks on trade and the U.S. economy.
Bush will make remarks at a private Republican National Committee luncheon before departing LAX aboard Air Force One, bound for Northern California. He is scheduled to attend a Republican fundraising dinner in Hillsborough.
