Police Shoot, Kill Suspect In Inglewood
LOS ANGELES (AP) ―
One person is dead and another one injured following an officer-involved shooting in Inglewood.
Police Sergeant Jeff Steinhoff says the shooting occurred around 1:40 a.m. Sunday.
Steinhoff says police were heading to reports of shots fired at an Inglewood fast-food restaurant.
The shooting occured in the area of Crenshaw Boulevard and 85th Street. Police said they heard gunshots coming from the parking lot of the nearby Rally's outlet.
"As they looked over, their attention was drawn to a male running away eastbound from the parking lot," Steinhoff said.
The police sergeant said officers drove into the parking lot and began driving towards the suspect. The police then encountered a speeding vehicle -- possibly a Honda -- driving toward them.
Steinhoff said officers felt something hit the officers' patrol vehicle, and heard gunshots that they thought came from the car. The officers fired shots into the suspects' vehicle, hitting two of three occupants.
One man in the car was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other one was taken to an area hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
Steinhoff said it was unclear if police were able to take into custody the suspect who was first seen running away from the Rally's parking lot.
