Police Impersonator Suspected Of Raping Hooker

POMONA, Calif. (CBS) ― A Pomona man was in custody Thursday for allegedly raping a woman on New Year's Eve while impersonating a police officer, authorities said.

Marvin Edgardo Lopez, 39, was arrested Wednesday night in Montclair and booked for rape, said Pomona police Sgt. MIchael Olivieri.

Lopez was held on $1 million bail and was scheduled to appear Friday in Pomona Superior Court, according to the sheriff's department.

Police say Lopez flashed a badge at a known prostitute, a 21-year-old woman, and raped her on New Year's Eve inside a Chevrolet Cavalier at Holt Avenue and St. Paul Street, Olivieri said.

Lopez is being held on $1 million bail. Authorities believe Lopez may have committed the same crime before.
