Ex-Teacher Gets 12 Years For Affair With Student

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) ― A former Arcadia High School English teacher who had an affair with a student has been sentenced to more than a dozen years in state prison.

Phillip Morgan Sutliff of Azusa was sentenced Friday in a Pasadena Superior Court to 12 years and 8 months in prison after pleading guilty in August to 17 counts of sexual misconduct.

The 35-year-old Sutliff had a two-year relationship with a student, beginning when she was 16 and ending when she graduated last year, authorities said.

Sutliff, who is married and has a young son, declined to speak at the hearing.
