A 7-year-old boy was in critical condition Friday and his father was in serious condition after they were hit by a car in Old Town Pasadena.
The boy's mother was also hit when a car jumped a curb as a result of a collision with another vehicle, authorities said.
The Toyota Corolla went up onto the sidewalk after colliding with a Nissan Altima at Colorado Boulevard and Fair Oaks Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department said.
The child was in "full arrest" when he was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital, she said.
The boy's father suffered major injuries and was hospitalized in serious condition, Derderian said, adding that the mother had moderate injuries.
Two people riding in the Altima also suffered minor injures
The injured family had just flown into Los Angeles Thursday afternoon and Pasadena was the family's first sightseeing destination.
If the Corolla had not struck a light pole on the sidewalk, it likely would have hit more pedestrians and crashed into a nearby J. Crew store.
Pasadena Fire Department personnel who were at the scene underwent a stress debriefing following the incident "because some of them have kids the same age," Derderian said.
