Court Papers: Slain Woman Offered To Help Feds

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Court papers say the slain wife of a wealthy gold trader offered to cooperate in a criminal investigation into the couple's business a month before she was stabbed to death in a parking garage.

Federal prosecutors filed the documents Tuesday as they try to convince a judge that the trader, James Fayed, should be held without bail.

Fayed is just a suspect and has not been charged in the July 25 killing of his wife Pamela Fayed.

He is in custody on a money-transferring charge.

A judge on Monday set bail at $500,000 but ordered Fayed held until a Wednesday hearing.

Fayed's attorney Mark Werksman says if prosecutors have evidence of Fayed committing a murder they should charge him.
