Explosion Sparks Fire At Palos Verdes Home

  Authorities say an explosion sparked a fire that burned most of the upper floor of a two-story home in Palos Verdes Estates Tuesday.

The fire was reported at 4:36 p.m. in the 1600 block of Via Montemar. Investigators were called to investigate the cause of the fire, a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher said.

The fire was declared knocked down 36 minutes later.

No one was home at the time, but two dogs and three cats were in the home. Their fate was not immediately known. The Department of Animal Care & Control was called.

A financial estimate of damage was not available.
