One person was killed Sunday night in a single-car crash that caused several other vehicles to collide, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The initial crash occurred on the northbound side Interstate 5 just south of the 118 Freeway in Pacoima, CHP Officer Anthony Martin said.
A car hit the center divider and a passenger was ejected onto the roadway around 11:40 p.m. One person died at the scene, Martin said.
Several other vehicles collided after the initial crash, possibly the result of motorists attempting to avoid the wreckage, he said.
The roadway was closed for hours, but reopened about 3:45 a.m., according to Martin.
The accidents were under investigation.
