D.A. Says Medrano Sexually Abused Kin For 7 Years

The district attorney says former Gardena city councilman Oscar Medrano, 47, sexually abused a relative under the age of 14 for a 7-year period.

Oscar Medrano, the former Gardena city councilman who resigned less than five days ago, was formally charged Friday with sexually abusing a child under the age of 14.
The count says Medrano, 47, abused a female relative, under the age of 14, over a 7-year period.
He was charged with eight counts of lewd acts on a child under 14, three counts of lewd acts on a child 14 or 15 years old, and one count of continuous sexual abuse.
Medrano allegedly molested the girl between October 1999 and September 2006.
The girl -- only described by prosecutors as a relative -- was allegedly
molested on a regular basis from the time she was in elementary school up until the age of 14, according to Deputy District Attorney Beatriz Dieringer.
Medrano was taken into custody Thursday, two days after he announced he was resigning from the Torrance City Council for health reasons.
Medrano remained jailed in lieu of $500,000 bail, but prosecutors want
his bail increased to $960,000 to comply with the bail schedule for the
charges.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Torrance Superior Court.
