2 Killed On Highway 74 Near San Juan Capistrano
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif.
Two people were killed Thursday when a Honda collided with a Toyota SUV on Ortega (74) Highway east of San Juan Capistrano, a highway patrol officer said.
The fatal crash took place at 4:45 a.m. near La Pata Avenue, according to CHP Officer Denise Quesada.
The Honda went onto the right shoulder and the driver over-corrected, causing it to swerve into the path of the SUV, she said. Both the driver and the passenger of the Honda were killed.
The two people in the SUV were taken to Mission Hospital, Quesada said.
The road, commonly used by Riverside County commuters, was closed in both directions until shortly after 8 a.m.
