Proposal Calls For Dog Spaying, Neutering
LOS ANGELES (CBS) ―
A proposed ordinance that will be given during an Apr. 18 public hearing says most dogs in unincorporated parts of Los Angeles County would have to be spayed or neutered, county Supervisor Mike Antonovich said Friday.
The Board of Supervisors delayed voting on a similar ordinance last month that would have applied only to pit bulls and Rottweilers.
Supervisors decided to expand the proposed ordinance to include all breeds because of a recommendation made by Marcia Mayeda, the director of Animal Care and Control.
Antonovich asked county officials in January to draft an ordinance that would penalize irresponsible dog owners and decrease the overpopulation of dangerous dogs.
The Legislature passed a bill last fall authorizing local governments to enact dog breed-specific ordinances pertaining to mandatory spay or neuter programs.
