Questions To Possible Jurors Argued In Carona Case

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) ― Prosecutors in the corruption case against former Orange County Sheriff Michael Carona don't like the questions potential jurors might be asked.

In legal documents filed Friday, federal prosecutors argued that 177 questions drawn up by Carona's lawyers are improper, including their views on whether somebody who cheats on his wife would be more likely to commit crimes.

Carona, his wife and his reputed mistress are charged with conspiring to take cash and gifts in exchange for favors from the sheriff.

Carona retired in January to focus on his defense.

A federal judge has approved the use of a pretrial questionnaire to help weed out bias among potential jurors. The prosecution and defense have so far agreed to 57 questions.
