Assemblyman Seeks To Stop Sale Of O.C. Fairgrounds
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) ―
A state assemblyman is asking Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to stop the sale of the Orange County Fairgrounds.
The 150-acre fairgrounds in Costa Mesa is the first of five popular state properties the governor wants to sell to help bridge a massive state deficit.
Democratic Assemblyman Jose Solorio of Santa Ana opposed the sale in a letter to the governor Wednesday.
He also introduced a bill to block the sale.
He's questioning county fair board members' attempts to buy the property and keep using it as a fairgrounds.
He also says the state is unlikely to get as much money as it wants for the property.
Schwarzenegger spokesman Mike Naple says the administration will move forward but could stop at any time if it decides the sale is not in the state's best interest.
