'Black Widows' Have A Bad Day In Court

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Two elderly women charged with killing two transient men after persuading them to take out lucrative life-insurance policies sat quietly in court Monday as a prosecutor displayed documents and checks she said links them to the alleged crimes.

Olga Rutterschmidt and Helen Golay face two counts of murder and two counts of conspiracy to commit murder for financial gain for the deaths of Paul Vados in November 1999 and Kenneth McDavid in June 2005.

Authorities in Los Angeles say the pair collected some $2.3 million after they drugged the men and ran them down with a station wagon.

They have pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors must convince the judge there is enough evidence to support the allegations before the case goes to trial.
