Former Olympic ice dancer Oksana "Pasha" Grishuk says she began to feel shaky and feared she might die after consuming a drink a man dining with her at an Orange County beach resort had allegedly spiked with a date-rape drug.
She said at a news conference Friday that she didn't know what was happening to her after she began feeling ill during a business-related dinner at the posh Saint Regis Monarch Beach on April 12 with 61-year-old Santa Ana insurance salesman James Halstead.
Grishuk discovered a dissolved pill in the bottom of her drink and investigators determined it was the date-rape drug GHB.
Halstead was charged this week with one felony count of giving a "narcotic, anesthetic and intoxicating agent" to an unwitting woman. He has eluded authorities.
Officials have also revealed Halstead pleaded guilty to swindling investors in an unrelated case from the late 1990s.
Thirty-six-year-old Grishuk won gold medals in 1994 and 1998.
