Inmate, On Work Release, Is Stabbed In Norwalk

NORWALK Forget about all those prison movies that depict life as an assault waiting to happen behind bars. Maybe it's safer in prison.

At least one inmate on a work release program might say that.

The inmate showed up on a stranger's doorstep Sunday suffering from numerous stab wounds, according to authorities.

The inmate reportedly knocked on a door in the 10900 block of Hoback Street around 6:30 p.m., said Lt. John Gannon of the Norwalk Sheriff's station.

It was unknown where the man came from or how he was attacked.

"He is being very uncooperative right now," Gannon said. "He won't tell us where he was, and he keeps saying there was no crime."

The inmate, who hadn't shown up to his assigned job, is being treated at St. Francis Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, Gannon
said.

He will be returned to jail after he's stitched up.

"He'll be taken back to (the jail) where he came from because he was
wanted for violation of the work release program," Gannon said. "Hopefully
he'll be a little more cooperative after treatment."
