Man Shot At When He Doesn't Pay For Train Ride

NORWALK A sheriff's Transit Services Bureau deputy fired at a man who ran away from a Metrolink train while officials were checking fares, but the man was not hit.

The man was taken into custody in the 12000 block of Hoxie Avenue about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Deputy Luis Castro of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau. His name was not released, and it was unclear what charge, if any, he would face.

The deputies were checking fare tickets aboard the train when the doors opened and the suspect ran out, according to authorities.

"The deputies followed the suspect, and at some point the suspect turned toward the deputies," Castro said in a statement.

"Fearing the suspect was armed, one deputy fired his weapon, missing the suspect," Castro said. "The suspect continued running and was later apprehended by another deputy without further incident."

The man was treated at a hospital for minor abrasions. The deputies were not injured.

An investigation into the incident was underway.
