Critics Try To Hide West Hollywood Palin Effigy

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A cover-up is going on at a West Hollywood home where a controversial Halloween display shows a Sarah Palin effigy hanging by a noose.

Protesters put up a pair of white sheets on sticks in effort to hide the display from the street.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Oscar Butao says nobody at the house has complained so far, but conceivably those who put up the sheets could be cited for trespassing or infringing on free speech rights.

The display features a Palin mannequin dangling from the roof and a John McCain effigy surrounded by fake flames coming out of the chimney.

The Secret Service looked into the display and said there was no threat. Some politicians have called the images offensive and urged their removal but creator Chad Morrisette has refused.
