NewsCentral: News That's Central To Your Life!
STUDIO CITY, Calif. (CBS) ―
A transformation is taking place at CBS 2 and KCAL 9. It started with you. NewsCentral listened to what you wanted. Not only what you wanted in a newscast, but how and when it's delivered.
NewsCentral is now about the story fewer podiums and more people. Getting the news that is relevant and central to your life.
You'll be seeing more in-depth pieces, more community reporting, more sound and pictures, more stories you won't see anywhere else.
You'll notice new things on your TV right away. We are debuting a new street-level mapping system to get right to the intersection where a story is happening. If there's a fire or breaking news, you'll know exactly what neighborhoods are nearby.
During each newscast you'll see a local ticker on the bottom of the screen and dozens of local news headlines you won't see anywhere else. We're proud to be the only station with two choppers in the air and a team headed by our own Larry Welk.
We're also proud to have a fleet of news trucks on the ground complete with the latest technology. NewsCentral means a major investment in these trucks, including onboard high-speed Internet connections. We now have the ability to broadcast on the road on the way to breaking news even before anyone else is there. When the other TV stations are still trying to get a signal, we'll get you the information you need first.
A big mission of NewsCentral is finding people in the community to tell us what's important in their towns by sharing video and stories with us. You can now join our Street Team right here at cbs2.com and kcal9.com.
At a time when other newsrooms are shrinking, NewsCentral produces more local news than anyone else in the country, more than 75 local newscasts each week with two reporters based in Orange County and two in the Inland Empire. We're also the only L.A. station with a Ventura County bureau.
All of this is summed up by the NewsCentral mission statement:
We are passionate about news. We are a team and together we have a focused commitment to provide immediate, relevant, local news all day and all night.
