320-Acre Big Horn Fire 25 Percent Contained

MOUNT BALDY VILLAGE Firefighters Thursday struggled to contain the Big Horn Fire on one of the biggest mountains in Southern California before windy and hot weather sets in.

The 320-acre fire on the eastern end of the San Gabriel Mountains was 25 percent contained as of Wednesday night.

Winds blew from the northeast at 25 mph but forecasts for Thursday call for highs in the 90s and winds gusting to 45 mph.

Two airtankers and water-dropping helicopters aided 623 firefighters on the lines 45 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

The area, part of Angeles National Forest, hadn't burned since 1975.
